South Park: 10 Most Controversial Moments

1. Episode 201

South Park may have never shied away from controversy in the past, but 'Episode 201' represents the peak of trouble the show has ever got in. It angered multiple celebrities and infuriated many Muslim extremist groups who threatened violent retaliation against the network and showrunners, forcing Comedy Central to increase security at their facilities. What caused such harsh reactions? Well, it all came from SP just doing its thing.

An episode involving many of the celebrities South Park has lampooned over the years (with Tom Cruise front and center, because of course), all demanding that they see the Muslim prophet Muhammad. A superhero team of religious figures come to defend the boys and help save the day, including Muhammad himself (albeit with a giant 'CENSORED' bar over his body).

The episode was never rerun on TV, is completely absent from all official streaming sites, and it seems that's unlikely to change anytime soon. This was a moment of extreme censorship Stone and Parker likely never expected to happen, but it's one that everyone involved had no choice but to move on from relatively quickly. Nevertheless, South Park has persevered and is (arguably) better than ever with its latest seasons.

Whether they receive death threats or legal allegations, it seems there's just no stopping Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the fearless leaders of one of the most controversial shows in television history.
