South Park: 10 Most Disturbing Episodes
4. The China Problem - Season 12, Episode 8
Most certainly one of the most controversial episodes of the show, The China Problem immediately caught people's attention with its reliance on Chinese stereotypes in the main plot, but it's the B-plot's content that really got a rise out of the public.
As Cartman goes on a perilous journey to try and thwart an invasion by China, which has plenty of unsavoury content on its own, the rest of the boys are shown to be plagued by a traumatic event in which a dear friend of theirs was sexually assaulted.
It's then soon revealed that said friend was in fact Indiana Jones, and said assault and traumatic experience was seeing Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. And whilst nobody would care about the writers slinging mud at a notoriously bad movie, its execution here is certainly in poor taste.
Parodying the likes of The Accused and Deliverance, the boys' flashbacks show Steven Spielberg and George Lucas brutally raping Indiana Jones, completely throwing any sense of subtlety out of the window.
Even by Trey Parker's own admission, this episode's content does air on the side of being dark as opposed to funny, and we're certainly not going to disagree with him here.
