Star Trek: 10 Examples Of Incredibly Lazy Alien Makeup

5. Prototype - Prototype (Voyager)

Prototype 208

Lazy of lazies and apparently horrific to shoot according to episode director Jonathan Frakes back in the day. Androids in space! Awesome! Brilliant! Wow! Actually it turned out to be pretty dull; only made duller by the Power Rangers styling and lack of thought over the concept. Let's be fair, our image of androids was set in stone thanks to Brent Spiner and Data over on The Next Generation. This was a total travesty with actors encased in tin foil and cardboard wandering around an equally mish-mash set. It might have seemed like a great idea to homage Metropolis but in the 1990's things had moved on and even a bad robot (no pun intended) would have looked a lot better than this. On the plus side it meant that the guest cast could hide their faces from the shame of a poor episode and even poorer conceived guest characters. Definitely one for the bottom drawer not to be repeated - and it wasn't. Reminds us of: How much more realistic the robot in Paris' Captain Proton fantasy appeared.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
