Star Trek: 10 Secrets Of The Enterprise A You Need To Know
1. Enterprise-Apocrypha
Like only a handful of other "hero" ships in the Star Trek Universe, the refit and USS Enterprise-A appeared only in the six TOS movies, making no outside appearances in any one of the various spin-off television series.
As of 1990's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, the Enterprise-A had flown its final mission, sailing off into the sunset, headed for decommissioning. However, along with numerous side stories set between the films, the Enterprise-A had continuing adventures in the non-canon Star Trek literary universe.
Most notable among the Enterprise-A's offscreen adventures was her reappearance in "Ashes of Eden", the first installment of William Shatner's "Shatnerverse" novels. In the novel ghost... errr... co-written by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, the decommissioned Enterprise-A was sold by the Federation to an alien race known as the Chal for their defense fleet.
Because you just can't keep a captain out of action, the novel saw retired Kirk join up with the Chal to once again command the Enterprise, teaming up with retired Scotty... and ultimately losing the Enterprise-A in a fight with some Klingon battle cruisers.
Oh well, easy come, easy go.
