Star Trek: 10 Secrets Of The USS Stargazer
2. Normalize Star Trek: Insurrection References
Brief rant: Star Trek: Insurrection is good actually. It's the closest the Star Trek: The Next Generation movies ever came to capturing the tone and thoughtfulness of the TV series, features a beautiful score by Jerry Goldsmith, lush visuals by cinematographer Matthew Leonetti, and loads of John Eaves-style spaceships –including a slew of auxiliary Starfleet vessels.
While references to Insurrection have been scant in the decades since its release (the Son'a are mentioned in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the Ba'ku get a shout in Star Trek: Discovery's fourth season), Star Trek: Picard includes a big one: The Stargazer's compliment of shuttlecraft.
Glimpsed only briefly in "The Star Gazer", the shuttlecraft that ferries Admiral Picard to the USS Stargazer is based on John Eaves' type-11 shuttle from Star Trek: Insurrection. Dubbed the type-14, this new shuttle is nearly identical to the one featured in the ninth Star Trek motion picture, with an additional antenna assembly on the dorsal hull and USS Stargazer-style warp nacelles.
Also of note: The type-14 seen in "The Star Gazer" is one of the few shuttlecraft with its own name, the USS Jemison, named for Astronaut Mae Jemison (who also appeared as transporter operator Palmer in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Second Chances").
