Star Trek: 11 Things You Didn’t Know About The Kzinti

6. Some Of Them Were Telepathic

There have been many telepathic species depicted in Star Trek. However, unlike species such as Vulcans and Betazoids, only some Kzinti males were telepathic. Unlike Vulcans and Betazoids, using their ability left the Kzinti telepaths exhausted, depressed, and neurotic. The telepath depicted in The Slaver Weapon was one of the lowliest members of the crew and was referred to simply as Telepath in accordance with Kzinti naming conventions.

He had gross-looking matted fur, a dejected expression, and looked like he was dying from lack of sleep.

There was no way to block Kzinti telepathy but they wouldn’t read the mind of a herbivore or a female as even lowly telepaths thought that herbivores and females were inferior lifeforms. However, a Kzinti telepath would read an omnivore's mind. An individual from an omnivorous species could make the experience unpleasant for the telepath by thinking about things that Kzinti found upsetting such as eating raw vegetables.
