Star Trek Characters That Must Return (2026)

1. Wesley Crusher and Kore Soong

Star Trek: Picard's second season finale sees Kore Soong come face-to-face with a very familiar boy wonder. Wesley Crusher, formerly of the Enterprise - among others - invites her to become part of a remarkable group of beings who watch the various timelines, only stepping in where absolutely necessary.

While Kore may have stepped out of the flow of time and focused on medical school in Pittsburgh for the moment, there is little doubt that the potential this pairing and this setting have is off the charts. Star Trek: Prodigy offered audiences a look at what could have been. Wesley's work with the Travellers and the Supervisors opens the door to Star Trek's very own series about Time Cops - and we are here for it.

Wesley Crusher and Kore Soong have the potential to become a fun, fast-talking, high-stakes pairing, shifting rapidly through the entire Trek timeline. This allows any alumni to appear in a series focusing on them, while also providing room for fresh new faces as well. Theirs is a plotline too tantalising not to realise.

The second season of Starfleet Academy, or indeed the fourth and fifth seasons of Strange New Worlds, are by no means off limits. Therein lies the beauty with time travellers. As long as they don't do anything to affect the timeline (because when does that ever happen in Star Trek?), then they are free to come and go as they please. Their story certainly feels unfinished, and if Trek is to take a break for the foreseeable future, then hitting pause through the eyes that see the entirety of the universe may just be the most fun and wonderful way to invite viewers to return.
