Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Ranking Every Major Character Worst To Best

16. Joseph Sisko

Star Trek Joseph Sisko
CBS

The no-nonsense Creole Chef and father of a God, Joseph Sisko was straight talking when it came to any situation, while always possessing a sympathetic ear. He is introduced in the fourth season when Ben returns to Earth to deal with the Changeling threat, bringing a warm sense of family with him.

Jake may tower above him, but the old man has no trouble putting him straight to work in the restaurant on arrival, much to everyone's amusement. His dealings with Ben are softer, as he tries to care for his son in the only way that he knows how.

Joseph Sisko however is still not initially able to fully grasp the stress that Ben is under. He refuses point blank to submit to blood tests, leading to a tense and frightening moment between father and son. This passes, but finally they understand each other a little more.

As the years go by, Joseph returns several times, visiting the station when Ben needs him most, and taking him in when he needs a break. He is the perfect father, waiting and listening, offering advice where he can. His revelation to Ben, that the woman who raised Ben wasn't his mother, is shocking but they handle it together.

Brock Peters was no strange to Star Trek when he took on the role of Joseph Sisko, having previously appeared as Admiral Cartwright. However, this is the role that he truly made his own and he is the man who would very believably have raised Ben Sisko.
