Star Trek: Discovery Season 3.13 Review: Ups And Downs From That Hope Is You - Part 2

Star Trek Discovery Gorgamagander

Star Trek Discovery is a beautiful show, with visual effects that are absolutely stunning. The work that is on show is a new depiction of the final frontier, though one wonders that if Gene Roddenberry had access to this kind of technology in the '60s, might not we have seen the Original Series in the exact same light.

Much criticism has been directed toward the look of Discovery. Certainly, it is a departure from what has gone before. However, thanks to it, the overall quality of the visual effects (reflected as well in Star Trek Picard) have risen exponentially. The fly-by of the Gormagander in the opening scene of this episode shows the full power of what these effects wizards can do, as Culber calmly watches it pass by. The ships in the episode are rendered beautifully.

While the interior shots of the Discovery, particularly in the turbolift fight, stretch the understanding of the physics of Discovery a little bit far - there is no doubt that they look beautiful. As Zareh falls all the way to his death, it may be odd to say how good it looks, but the proof is in the results!
