Star Trek: The Next Generation - Ranking Every Major Character Worst To Best
3. Ro Laren
Ro showed up late in the show’s run and she wasn’t around long, but she made an impact. Ro is the first recurring Bajoran character in Star Trek. She is our initial window into a species that will occupy a huge space in the world of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Unlike other characters on the show, Ro isn’t the perfect Starfleet officer. Early in her career, Ro is on an away mission where she disobeys an order. This results in the deaths of her entire away team. She is court-martialed and sent to a penal colony. Later, Ro is released and commissioned aboard the Enterprise as an ensign.
Throughout her run on the show, Ro has some serious trust issues. As Guianan puts it, she doesn’t trust anyone, least of all herself. But, she overcomes this flaw and is eventually fully integrated as a valued member of the crew.
That is until she betrays the Enterprise to join up with the Maquis. While Ro has honorable reasons for joining the Maquis, this is a pretty low moment for Picard. Ro was set to return in Deep Space Nine, but unfortunately, we never see her again.
