Star Trek: The Next Generation - Ranking Every Major Character Worst To Best
2. Worf
As a character, Worf has enough internal conflict that the entire show could have been about him. What drives this conflict is Worf's culture. He is a Klingon serving aboard a Federation starship. On top of that, his parents were murdered by Romulans leaving him an orphan. A human couple adopted Worf, and he was raised by the historical enemy of his people.
Because of all this, Worf becomes the most Klingony Klingon you’ve ever met. When other Klingons talk about honor and battle, it's mostly lip service. But, not with Worf. When he comes at you with a bat'leth, he means business.
And, Worf goes through the wringer. He learns he has a son, suffers the death of his child’s mother, is excommunicated by the Klingons for crimes he didn’t commit. He spends years striving to reclaim his family's honor.
Worf is also one of the few single parents in Star Trek. And, he's far from a perfect dad. In a realistic depiction of what parenthood can be, Worf is never comfortable with his role as a father.
Worf is constantly struggling to find his place in the world. He is an excellent Starfleet officer, yet he yearns for acceptance as a Klingon warrior.
Best of all, Worf’s story plays out over two series. Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Deep Space Nine. He’s one of the most fully realized characters in the Star Trek canon.
