Star Trek The Next Generation: Where Are They Now?
8. Colm Meaney
This one should need no introduction—as the likeable
Miles O’Brien, Colm Meaney is beloved by fans of both The Next Generation and
its follow-up Deep Space Nine for his charming and affable presence. The character
was even named one of the most positive representations of Irishness in
fiction, and O’Brien remains a fan favourite decades after his actor moved on
to new projects. So what has Meaney filled his time with?
Well, the Irish actor certainly hasn’t been slacking, as he used the clout of Star Trek stardom to rack up roles in the likes of (deep breath) Con Air, Intermission, Layer Cake, The Damned United, Get Him to the Greek, Law Abiding Citizen, Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, and… er, Norm of the North.
Come on, they can’t all be gems.
Most recently, Meaney appeared in 2019’s romantic biopic Tolkien and the intense historical drama Seberg, and features in the upcoming TV series Gangs of London.
