Star Wars: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Star Destroyers
7. How Much Would An Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer Cost?
Now, nobody said that ruling the galaxy would be easy - or cheap! - but through their brutal tactics of occupying entire planets, the Empire amassed enough money to fund their powerful fleet.
Each of the Empire’s Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer ships were constructed at the Kuat Drive Yards at a cost of 150 million Imperial credits. Considering that one Imperial credit is the equivalent of one US dollar, then $150 million for such a huge ship doesn’t seem that steep, right? Needless to say, such an impressive ship as the Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer would be virtually priceless in our real world.
Unfortunately, according to an article on Forbes, it would actually cost $636 billion to build the Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer on Earth, with a further $44.4 trillion to get it all off Earth and to Mars.
Star Wars fans hoping to recreate their own version of a Star Destroyer might be better off opting for a LEGO set. The recent model became one of the largest LEGO sets in history, with over 4,000 pieces and measuring over one meter in length. Plus, at a price point of around £649, it’s much cheaper than the trillions needed to really recreate the ship!
