Stranger Things 3 Trailer Breakdown: 13 Things You Need To See

The trailer may put the majority of its focus on fun character moments but the last thirty seconds make sure to remind us all exactly what kind of show Stranger Things is and that the Upside Down is going to be back and even more vicious than ever before.

The shot of the aforementioned monster at the end (whether it's actually a transformed Billy or not) showcases a monster design much more reminiscent of the effects in John Carpenter's The Thing than previous seasons. The Demogorgon and the Demodogs were both fairly clean-cut, Giger-inspired designs, so to see the monsters take such a sharp left turn definitely means something is up with the Upside Down.

We also get shots of men in hazmat suits getting tossed around by something from the Upside Down and Eleven staring up at an Upside Down-lit sky. Noticeably absent from the trailer is the Mind Flayer itself, but given that the Duffers have previous equated its role as an antagonist to Voldemort's in the Harry Potter franchise, you can bet your good money on the fact that it will play a huge role in this season in one way or another.
