Supergirl Season 2: 6 Ups And 3 Downs From 'The Last Children Of Krypton'

1. Superman, No More

Much like the show took a massive hit in how it’s now having Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant step out of the picture, Supergirl also has to wave a temporary goodbye to Tyler Hoechlin’s Man of Steel.

Many worried that Superman may well overshadow Supergirl, that Melissa Benoist’s Maid of Might may be left in her cousin’s dust when it comes to screen time, but the way that the Big Blue Boy Scout has been used in his two appearances has been exemplary in how he’s firmly stolen the show whilst also bringing out the best in the Supergirl character.

Seeing Superman now stepping out of the spotlight and heading back to Metropolis is a huge downer for the series, although his two-episode run should be heralded as nothing short of a flawless, rip-roaring success, especially considering how many have soured over the bungled handling of the Last Son of Krypton on both the big screen and in comic books over recent years.

Sadly though, Kal-El’s time on Supergirl is at an end, which is a major, major “Down” for the series as a whole. Still, as ever with Superman, there’s always a great sense of hope on the horizon.
