Supergirl Season 4: 3 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Blood Memory'
Supergirl tackles a very important matter in a strong and mature outing.
Contains spoilers from Supergirl Season 4, Episode 11.
After spending the first half of its fourth season providing us with a social commentary on some of the issues in modern day America through some clever politically-charged subtext, Supergirl returned to The CW last week with a midseason premiere that took things back to basics. Focusing solely on its core characters, the episode saw Alex Danvers' attempts to protect her sister's true identity fail, ultimately resulting in J'onn J'onzz having to wipe Kara's secret from the mind of every D.E.O. agent (Alex included).
Of course, this continued to play a major role in this week's instalment, 'Blood Memory', as Kara struggled with the realisation that her own sister was no longer aware of the truest part of her and, as a result, didn't relate to Supergirl (or any aliens) in the way that she once did. But the Girl of Steel wasn't the only one having family trouble as newcomer Nia Nal faced some revelations about her own heritage.
All in all, 'Blood Memory' is a tale of clarity - one that takes a welcome detour to place the spotlight on the show's newest character, while still managing to effectively tie it to the season's main narrative.
First, the positives...
