Syfy Developing Pilot Based On Paul Bettany Movie Legion

Scott Stewart will direct TV pilot based on his own movie about Archangel Michael who went against God's orders to help the humans survive an Apocalypse.

Syfy are developing a small screen version of Legion, the 2010 supernatural thriller that starred Paul Bettany. That film's co-writer/director Scott Stewart will helm and executive produce the TV adaptation, based on a pilot script from Vaun Wilmott (Sons of Anarchy). The movie chronicled the human race's battle for survival against God's legion of angels sent to bring about the Apocalypse. Paul Bettany led the film as the Archangel Michael who went against God's orders to help the humans live. No word yet if Bettany will commit himself to a tv series but his film career has been blighted by under-performing films and bad choices that he may not be so picky to quickly turn up his nose. Though I imagine if he was to return, Sony would have just gone the sequel route on a smaller budget rather than a tv series which is always a hard medium to make money from with genre efforts like this. Although deemed a very moderate success having grossed $68 million worldwide from a $26 million budget, Legion must have made enough of a profit after the marketing costs and other sums were factored in for Sony to turn it into a franchise. Sony Pictures TV will distribute the show, after Screen Gems distributed the film with most of the producers and creative team on board to help steer this to the small screen. source - deadline
