The TV universe was in a dull, dry state. Then, nearly 14 years years ago, The Big Bang Theory aired for the very first time.

The Big Bang Theory was a hugely popular sitcom that revolved around the lives of four awkward geniuses: Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, and Howard. We see them do groundbreaking research, navigate the scary outside world, and annoy their attractive and thoroughly un-nerdy friend Penny. Over the show's 12 seasons, the core characters were joined by a galaxy of other weird and wonderful characters. And of course, some stayed around longer than others.

In fact, many of the the show's greatest characters only appeared in one episode, but due to the quality of the writing and acting they're still remembered and beloved to this day.

From A-list guest stars to talented fresh faces, The Big Bang Theory was graced by many unforgettable one-episode characters who left the audience in a state of nerdvana and helped to shape the show into the modern classic that it's seen as today.

Let's now take a look at the Big Bang Theory's ten best and most memorable one-and-done characters. Bang!

Episode: "The Convention Conundrum" (Season 7, Episode 14)

In this episode, Sheldon and his friends are unable to get tickets to Comic-Con and so Sheldon tries to set up his own comic convention. He tries to wrangle some celebrity guests and even manages to track down James Earl Jones in a restaurant to ask him if he wants to appear at Sheldon-Con. At first, it looks certain that Jones will hit Sheldon with his 59th celebrity restraining order, but it turns out that Jones is thrilled to meet a Star Wars fan and the two go out for a wild night on the town.

When a big name guest stars on a TV show, all one can ask is that they be a good sport. In this episode, James Earl Jones was one of the greatest sports in the history of TV guest stars. From screaming atop a Ferris wheel, to crooning in a karaoke bar, and even stripping off and going into a sauna, Jones engaged in a wide variety of onscreen silliness - what's more, he did all of it with giddy excitement and a twinkle in his eye.

It's like he truly enjoyed being there and the audience very much shared that sentiment and won't forget his guest appearance in a hurry.
