The Big Bang Theory: 10 Reasons Amy & Sheldon Should Break Up
7. Sheldon Has Changed
Sheldon is no longer a socially obtuse scientist with an interest in comics and trains. He now has to think about Amy throughout the episode, and the episode has to make time for Sheldon to communicate with Amy via Skype. Originally this was amusing, but it has weakened Sheldon as a character. Sheldon was funny because he did not fit in, and while he is still not fully integrated into society, Amy has bought him more in line with the rest of the cast. This change is one that shows the power of character development. The changes in Sheldons personality have fundamentally altered the dynamic of the show, and to remove Amy would reclaim this dynamic. This does not mean Amy should be written out of the show, but it means that the two characters should be tied to each other. Both characters are able to perform extremely well alone or with others, so why should they be bonded together any longer?
