3. Pinocchio
In one of season two's most gruesome scenes, The Deep attempts to stop Butcher, Hughie, Frenchie et al from escaping the Seven with Kimiko's brother. Putting a whale in the way of their escape root, The Deep is shocked when Butcher slams his yacht right through the animal, killing it and knocking Deep unconscious.
Afterwards, Butcher, Frenchie, Kimiko and MM escape from the whale's stomach, but Hughie, having reached his breaking point, elects to stay put and gives up. Butcher tries to get him on his feet, but when Hughie continuously refuses to move, Butcher storms off and calls Hughie "Pinocchio."
This a reference to the 1940 classic Pinocchio, in which the notorious liar has to save his friends from a whale which has eaten them. It's a weird reference, easy to miss, but continues Butcher's trend of making strange pop culture references to make a point. I mean, remember his Spice Girls speech?
