The Boys Season 3: Every Character Ranked Worst To Best
2. Billy Butcher
So here's the thing: In the first seasons, Butcher was a great source of entertainment, Karl Urban's performance chewing every bit of scenery it inhabited as he drove the main action of the series, but he was also a little on the bland and repetitive side development-wise.
Sure, he had a tragic backstory and lots of compelling baggage, but for my money it wasn't until this season where it reached his full potential. Injecting himself with Compound V, throwing himself into battle with Homelander and Soldier Boy, and struggling to keep Hughie out of danger, his turmoil has been harrowing to watch.
Still as cocky and profanely poetic as ever, Butcher's desire for power and his suicidal actions put him at odds with the rest of the team, especially Hughie, who it's revealed reminds the British badass of his late brother, which is why he's so protective of him (in his own, toxic way).
Now slowly dying because of the poisonous Compound V injections, Butcher will be more twisted than ever going into season four, and it's going to be great to see.
