The Flash: Ranking Every Major Death Worst To Best

2. Eddie Thawne

The Flash Nora West-Allen Death XS
The CW

Eddie Thawne's death is one the most heroic in the entire Arrowverse. Anytime non-superpowered characters sacrifice themselves amongst heroes, it makes a huge impact. This is because heroes exist to save people, specifically those without incredible superhuman abilities. So when a 'regular' person dies, it usually marks a significant point in other characters' lives. Generally, we find that it is these losses that send the protagonist on their path.

While fans may have been slow to get on board with Eddie's character, primarily due to his relationship with Iris West. Audiences came to like the detective for his hard work and loving nature towards others throughout the first season. His character genuinely cared for Iris though their relationship was always doomed to fail. It was evident that he was nothing like his descendent Eobard Thawne.

Tragically, Eddie realizes that the only way he can help stop the Reverse-Flash is to take his own life. His sacrifice is incredible because he does it understanding his role in the greater universe. Furthermore, he sacrificed his life because he knew that he was the only one who could stop Eobard from killing Barry, thus recognizing how vital the Flash's work is. While Eddie does manage to outrun his fate for a while, at the end of the day, Eddie is the hero of the story.
