The Flash Season 3: 7 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Paradox'

5. The Return Of The Rival

Whilst it at one point seemed as though Edward Clariss, aka The Rival, was a one-and-done villain during the season premiere, that episode gave us enough hope during its final moments that we may just see The Rival again soon. And here he is, with the Doctor Alchemy-assisted Clariss becoming a villainous speedster here in the current timeline.

The cockiness, wise-cracking, and all-round badassery of The Rival has made him a joy to watch during his two appearances so far, and Todd Lasance is brilliant at devouring scenery in the role. Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash may have nothing but pure hatred for The Flash, and Hunter Zolomon/Zoom was a superspeed-hungry maniac, but The Rival brings something different to the table in comparison to those other heinous speedsters.

Unfortunately, again things ultimately didn’t play out all that well for The Rival by the time Paradox came to a close, but his inclusion here was again a major plus point for the show, and here’s hoping that we see this rogue again some time down the line.
