The Flash Season 5: 3 Ups & 4 Downs From ‘Goldfaced’
1. Iris Gets Results
Fed up by the fact that her own newspaper hadn't yielded promising results in her first week, Iris decided to remind herself what it was like to be a real reporter. Well, what better way to do that than by channelling the days when she did some real reporting? As a result, she set off to find out some information about Cicada and, in doing so, single-handedly figured out where he lived and even managed to come up with a fake story in an attempt to interview him.
When he eventually discovered that she was lying to him, Dwyer tried to stop her. But the resourceful matriarch of the West-Allen family put up one hell of a fight, stabbing him with a pen in his original wound before emphatically reinforcing that they would defeat him.
However, the altercation wasn't just a brilliant edge-of-seat encounter that would have effectively slotted into countless horror films, it was the episode's most important scene as it ended up giving us all the answers we were looking for. By attacking his injured chest, Iris managed to stun Dwyer momentarily, which would have been long enough for the team to give him the meta cure if they had it.
Iris was the one who managed to get to the bottom of this mystery and she didn't even have to take part in a secret underground arms deal to do it. She was more resourceful and, quite frankly, more effective than any of the meta-powered heroes on the team this week, because she ultimately provided them with all of the answers they craved. Now that's what a reporter would do.
Now, for the negatives...
