The Flash Season 6 Review: 4 Ups & 2 Downs From 'License To Elongate'
Ups...
4. It Was Much Better Than The Last Barry/Ralph Caper
When fans discovered that we were going to get an episode devoted to Barry Allen and Ralph Dibny going undercover in tuxedos, many of them were apprehensive. Yes, 'License To Elongate' wasn't the first time that we saw something like this, as the pair also donned matching suits when they went undercover last season to retrieve a weapon that could help them take down Cicada and, as fun as it was, 'Goldfaced' was little more than a filler episode.
This time, however, the season's secondary storyline - Ralph's search for Sue Dearbon - received top billing but the whole episode was also sprinkled with elements of the main storyline. From Barry's attempts to get Ralph to return home so that The Flash could decree Elongated Man Central City's official hero, to the latter's desperate attempts to get his heroic friend to see that Barry Allen is equally as vital to them as The Flash, there were so many references to Barry's apparent demise in the Crisis and the bond he shared with Ralph that not a single second felt remotely like filler.
On top of that, there were a ton of James Bond references, cheesy one-liners, corny villains and an epic jazzy score to make this off-the-wall adventure all the more, well, off-the-wall.
It shouldn't have worked but oh boy it did.
