The Flash Season 7: 9 Theories On The Identity Of The New Big Bad

A vengeful friend back from the dead, or The Flash villain we’ve all been waiting for?

The Flash's sixth season kicked things up a notch, taking it back to a high standard that it hadn't seen (on a consistent basis at least) in years. It was a season full of change, villains and a lot of unfinished business, but it was one that successfully managed to juggle everything it tackled, giving its multiple storylines a chance to breathe.

One thing it did differently was adopt new showrunner Eric Wallace's dual 'graphic novel' approach, splitting itself into two separate installments. While this allowed the show to avoid the risk of dragging good material out for too long, it also presented the creative team with the chance to play with two unique Big Bads in Bloodwork and Mirror Master 2.0.

The show didn't get to finish out its run because of everything happening in the world right now, so expect some familiar faces to resurface throughout the first couple of episodes of Season 7 as it wraps up its predecessor's storylines, but once that is done, who will Barry Allen and Team Flash be battling next?

From speedsters, Thinkers, monsters, metahuman slayers and Mirror Masters, Team Flash have battled every type of villain you can imagine, but who will torment Central City when the show returns in 2021?

You might initially find Eva McCulloch's placement on this list a little confusing considering that she was the Big Bad of the back half of Season 6. However, as Season 6 never got the chance to properly complete its narrative, she remains the show's current Big Bad - and that means that we're going to see her in the first couple of episodes of the next season (at the very least).

However, with things changing drastically over the past couple of weeks, the episodes initially designed to conclude the previous season could look very different when they open Season 7. Yes, the writers have quite a bit of time to evaluate how those episodes will work at the beginning of the season after the one they were written to conclude, and that means we could be in for some major changes.

The truth is that Eva has been a great, well-developed character since her introduction, but she's only really starting to get villainous now (the finale saw her debut her new Mirror Master costume). With that in mind, it's possible that some rewrites could result in her wrath carrying the first half of Season 7 - which, in theory, actually sounds like a great idea.
