This really is the cornerstone of the show. Uhtred must avenge the early betrayal of his Saxon family. His ultimate ambition is to retake the fortress of Bebbanburg (Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland) by slaying his villainous uncle Aelfric. Aelfric conspired with the Danes to murder Uhtred's family and sold Uhtred into slavery. Fans are desperate to see a final boss battle with Aelfric which is something we need to see in Season 4. After all the personal sacrifices Uhtred has made for the kingdom of Wessex, he really deserves an army of Saxon warriors to reclaim his ancestral homeland.

The showrunners have been teasing us since the very beginning that Uhtred will return to claim his inheritance at some point.
