The Last Of Us Season 2: Episode 3 (The Path) 4 Ups & 4 Downs

7. Down - Where Does This Leave Tommy?

As said previously, Ellie and Dina have saddled up Shimmer and taken the story away from Jackson in pursuit of justice for those who killed Joel (Pedro Pascal). This was naturally going to happen, but the way that it was done raises a big question mark over Tommy's standing in the remaining four episodes.

Gabriel Luna's character has taken on a much bigger role already in season two, and arguably stole the show in the last episode, 'Through the Valley'. He had another strong showing in 'The Path', as a member of the council and as something of an uncle to Ellie, but where can his story go next?

In the source material, there is no town meeting and no council decision as to how to approach what happened to Joel. Instead, Maria is almost forced to send Ellie and Dina after Tommy, who headed out for revenge all on his own.

Though he was off-screen for much of the story following this, his presence was still felt very strongly, and there would have been plenty of opportunity to do the same had he also left Jackson in the show. However, with Tommy staying at home, it seems as though season two may have just left one of its strongest characters to date on the sideline.
