The Mandalorian Season 2: 10 Reasons To Be Excited

4. Fleshing Out The New Republic

With Mando heading deeper into the galaxy, there's every chance that we'll find out more about the New Republic than just their policy on responding to distress beacons.

We received very little information from the sequels about the Republic that the Rebels fought so hard to restore. Aside from the huge conflict at Jakku and their capital on Hosnian Prime, there was little on the big screen that explored the New Republic, with the task of fleshing out the new era falling to the novels and comics.

Although the new expanded universe certainly has delved into this transition, the opportunity to adapt it to screen opens it to further interpretation, particularly from the viewpoints of those who are neither Rebels nor Imps. We already know from Cara Dune that the new regime doesn't work for everyone - even the Rebels themselves.

In the timeline of The Mandalorian the New Republic is still very much a new entity, with only a few years of power under its belt. As the Imperial Remnant is evidently still an issue and with the rest of the galaxy to deal with, the New Republic has every opportunity to surprise us.

My passion for all things Sci Fi goes back to my earliest days, when old VHS copies of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet gripped my tiny mind with their big, noisy vehicles and terrifying puppets. I'd like to say my taste got more refined over the years, but between the Warhammer, Space Dandy and niche Star Wars EU books, perhaps it just got broader. I've enjoyed games of all calibre since I figured out that dice weren't just for eating, and have written prose ever since I was left unsupervised with some crayons next to a white wall. I got away with it by calling it "schoolwork" for as long as I could, and university helped me keep the charade going a while longer. Since my work began to get published, it's made all those long hours repainting the walls seem worth it.
