The Simpsons: 10 Greatest Recurring Characters Introduced After Season One

7. Groundskeeper Willie

There’s no doubt that Bart made his fair share of enemies among the faculty at Springfield Elementary School. Of course there was Principal Skinner and Mrs. Krabappel, to which he was a constant thorn in both their sides, but originally he was something of a pain to Groundskeeper Willie too.

Bart being Bart, he damaged a fair bit of property on school grounds, which brought him into Willie’s firing line on more than one occasion, the first of which was in season two's 'Principal Charming'. However, the school groundskeeper evolved to be more than just someone to dish out punishment to Springfield’s resident hellraiser.

As something of a stereotypical Scotsman, Willie was quick to anger and loved a punch up, on top of being easily one of the most ripped characters the show has ever seen. Who could forget when he told Lunchlady Doris to grease him up?!

There are a few standout moments for Willie, oddly enough with the most iconic coming in the Treehouse of Horror specials. Whether he was trying to save the Simpsons from Homer with his ‘Shinning’, or trying to kill the children of Springfield in their dreams, Willie has always been entertaining.
