The Simpsons: 10 Most HATED Episodes
6. Homer Vs. Dignity
Homer's no stranger to being made a punching bag, but when it's done so cruelly as in "Homer vs. Dignity", it starts to come off as downright unpleasant. Not to mention, the framing device relies too much on retreads of past plots, making the show feel tired and stale.
By this point, cracks in the show's foundation were readily apparent as the glorious shine of the Golden Age began to wear off after season 10 or so. In its place, fans were treated to lazy rehashes and mean-spirited treatments of beloved characters for cheap laughs.
Most notably, the scene where Homer is implicitly raped by a panda stoops to a level of depraved gross-out humour that belongs in a Tom Green flick, and to say that it didn't sit well with fans is an understatement. Homer is also forced to act like an infant in a public bathroom with lines like "baby made a boom-boom" as the episode operates under the flimsy (and overdone) premise of "let's humiliate Homer again and again and again!"
Though there are some glimmers of almost entertaining moments ("Ow, my eye! I'm not supposed to get pudding in it!") it's all overshadowed by the otherwise unnecessarily crude and obnoxious humour that fails to land throughout.
