The Simpsons: 10 Underrated Episodes No One Talks About
4. Dancin' Homer
While some would argue that The Simpsons' best years didn't really kick in until season three, season two is packed full of great episodes. The one that falls under the radar however is 'Dancin' Homer', which somehow finds itself as the joint lowest rated episode of the entire season according to IMDb.
This is a real head-scratcher, as it is a simply brilliant episode. From Homer and Burnsy getting drunk together and Bleeding Gums Murphy's ridiculous 25 minute rendition of the national anthem, to the heartbreaking end to Homer's mascot career, there are tonnes of laugh out loud moments and genuinely touching moments too.
Usually, the situations Homer finds himself in are the result of his own idiocy or a dumb mistake he has made, but here he genuinely tried to be the best version of himself, and still wound up as the loser in Moe's telling of how he became such a loser.
Ending with his family's unconditional love and support, this episode managed to strike a perfect balance between classic Simpsons comedy and really empathising with our favourite character in a way that isn't always so easy.
