The Simpsons: 10 Underrated Episodes No One Talks About
2. Homer Vs The Eighteenth Amendment
This episode suffers a similar fate to 'Marge on the Lam', in that it is surrounded by so many classic episodes, it manages to fall under the radar when it's truly fantastic. Season eight is highlighted by the likes of 'You Only Move Twice', 'Homer's Enemy', and 'The Springfield Files', but 'Homer Vs the Eighteenth Amendment' deserves far more recognition that it gets.
The look at how the likes of Homer and co. celebrate St. Patrick's Day is wonderful, as he's upset that he's not already drunk by 9am, and the entire drunken mess that is Springfield, including Bart, hilariously leads to prohibition being reinstated.
This paved the way for speakeasies popping up all over town (including the best darn pet store in town), and the subsequent introduction of one of the show's greatest ever one off characters, Rex Banner. The no nonsense police chief who replaced Chief Wiggum and whipped the department into shape seemingly came out of a different era, but even he couldn't beat the mysterious beer baron in a game of wits.
This is without even mentioning Homer's methods of making beer and 12 year old scotch in a bath tub in his basement, and the fact that all ducks in Springfield are by law required to wear long pants.
