The Simpsons: 11 Best Episodes From Season 11
6. Beyond Blunderdome
Unfortunately, this episode might be hard to watch if you can’t see Mel Gibson past his spells of bigotry and misogyny in the last 13 years (which are obviously indefensible). However, before he was Hollywood’s resident madman, he was an acclaimed, high-profile actor and director, and his guest starring role in the Season 11 premiere is a big deal.
Gibson seeks to remake Jimmy Stewart’s classic Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. However, wanting to get the perspective of the average man, he enlists Homer’s help as a creative consultant. Of course, Homer ends up creating something that would appeal to him, and what results is, quite possibly, the most hilarious film parody The Simpsons have ever done. No, seriously:
Throw in additional funny gags about Hollywood and film in general, and you’ve got a powerful season premiere, and if you can look past the man Gibson turned out to be, you’ve got an all-time great episode.
