The Simpsons: 11 Best Episodes From Season 11

7. Missionary: Impossible

...oh, you want more of an explanation? Fine.

Another absurd episode, “Missionary: Impossible” takes a look at Christian missionaries... but imagines what would happen if Homer was one of them. Needless to say, it doesn’t go well.

After going on the run from PBS for unpaid telethon pledge money, Homer winds up on a tropical island pretending to be a missionary. Soon he introduces the natives to gambling and alcohol, which ruins their culture. Eventually, Homer ends up destroying the island, but before he can fall into the lava and die, the show is interrupted by a FOX telethon. Featuring various cameos from other shows on the network, the telethon urges viewers to donate to FOX. Rupert Murdoch, real-life evil billionaire and owner of FOX, answers the phone and accepts a pledge from someone. Murdoch says to the caller that he saved his network, and it’s revealed that Bart is on the other end of the call, and he replies “It wouldn’t be the first time.”

Again, certainly an absurd episode that has a non-ending very emblematic of seasons 9-12, but the gags and meta-commentary make it a very entertaining watch. (Seriously though, “Jeebus” is enough of an argument in its favor)
