The Simpsons: 8 Reasons Why Season 8 Was The Show's Best

1. It Actually Changes The Lore

While there are occasionally some callback gags in the show, most episodes of The Simpsons are their own, self-contained story. Season 7 sees Krusty ruined after being convicted of tax fraud, but by the end of the show he's back. Homer and Marge have each had a range of jobs which only last an episode as well.

Season 8 however provides two events which forever change the story in very different ways, the most obvious being Kirk and LuAnn's divorce. While it's tragic for little Milhouse, it comes off the back of a hilarious fight about dignity, which provides both parents with easily the best lines they've ever had in the show. The usual 'one-episode-story' trope is lampshaded too as Kirk asks LuAnn for another shot. She turns him down, turning Kirk into a much funnier character in the process.

The second change comes in as Lisa dates Nelson. Though the romance is over at the end of the episode, flashforwards often see them match-up. In the acclaimed Barthood, Lisa and Nelson are shown to be a very sweet couple, while in Days Of Future Passed Lisa admits she often drunkenly phones Nelson to complain about her marriage to Milhouse.

Is Season 8 The Simpsons' best, or does another take the crown? Let us know down in the comments.
