The Simpsons Season 29: 10 Excellent Things You Need To Know

8. Burns Builds A Doomsday Ark

The Simpsons Season 29
Fox

Burns' wicked plans produce some of the best Simpsons stories, including his evil schemes to place Springfield under a dome, and to kill puppies for a designer wardrobe. This season, he plots to erect a doomsday ark which should offer audiences a host of comedic interactions and an innovative narrative.

In an episode entitled Frink Gets Testy, Burns constructs an impressive boat sure to garner the attention of the townspeople. Little is known about the plot that inspires the ship, but it's safe to assume it involves some post-apocalyptic implications. Whether the Simpsons board the vessel remains a mystery, though Smithers' passenger status seems pretty much guaranteed.

For a man who drops old school references and uses his age as his ATM password, Mr. Burns' doomsday prep is an up-to-date storyline. It's an opportunity for the writers to hold a magnifying glass over a contemporary practice utilizing one of Springfield's most vocal citizens. The writers used the tycoon to great effect in Last Exit to Springfield, a classic episode that addresses workplace unions and health benefits. If they follow suit with Frink Gets Testy, Burns' actions during the town's doomsday terror should pinpoint the unique traits of end of the world preparation.

Though the motivations behind his ark are shadowy, Burns' delightful misconduct in previous escapades should lead audiences to invest in this trip.
