The Single Biggest Mistake Every Doctor Who Series Has Made

2. Series 12: Too Much Filler

We can already hear you asking, "What about the Timeless Child?!", and while we aren't fans of it either, Series 12 would still have problems if you take it out. And frankly, we're sick of talking about it.

With more of an arc than Series 11 and some actual acknowledgement of Doctor Who history, Series 12 did a much better job of keeping fans engaged.

The decision to open the series with a two-parter, close it with a loose trilogy, and have a game-changing tentpole story slap-bang in the middle created a greater sense of momentum, and of one developing story.

These instalments account for 60% of Series 12’s episode count. Add in Can You Hear Me?, which lays groundwork for Ryan’s imminent exit, and you have seven episodes that are essential viewing.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of the remaining three, which are almost completely pointless.

Sure, there’s the odd reference to the ongoing arc here and there (like the Skithra Queen's “Have you ever seen a dead planet?” in Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror), but they feel more like hangovers from Series 11, and they kill the momentum of the series.

Add to that the fact that Orphan 55 and Praxeus are true abominations, and the series would've been better off without them.
