6. It's Full Of Surprises

The unpredictability of the central time travel narrative ensures season two is jam-packed with unexpected story twists and turns, as well as the surprise return of more than a few characters.

If the central end-of-the-world plot seems familiar, it's really just a leaping-off point for the season to explore so many other avenues for both its story and characters.

To that end, it ventures off in a number of totally left-field directions, yet crucially without ever feeling like it's trying too hard to get one over on audiences.

But just when you think you know where things are going, another spanner gets thrown in the works or another familiar face shows up totally out of nowhere.
