The Walking Dead: 10 Most Disappointing Episodes Ever

8. Coda (Season 5, Episode 8)

The Walking Dead Swear
AMC

Next up, we have "Coda", falling squarely in the middle of the show's ten seasons. Some of the characters, including Carol and Beth, end up stuck in a hospital ran by the controlling police officers of Atlanta. It's an episode of reunions, but one that falls well short of better episodes.

It was the mid-season finale of TWD's fifth season and going in, you knew they were going to have a big shock to mark the halfway point. As the scattered members of the group close in on the hospital, a confrontation ensues between the rogue police force and their patients. The build-up to the climax was rather limp already and the episode's final twist isn't able to land with the right impact.

From the moment Beth turns around and confronts Dawn head-on, it's already too obvious that something bad is going to happen. Instead of taking her medicine and walking away, she instead stabs the officer with scissors. Dawn's gun discharges, killing Beth instantly, followed by a distraught Daryl killing Dawn as well.

While competently acted by everyone involved, Beth's untimely and ultimately predictable demise drains the episode of much of its tension. Afterwards the group proceeds on the road to the next major settlement.
