The Walking Dead: 10 Most Underused Characters

5. Axel/Oscar

The Walking Dead
AMC

Look up "wasted potential" in the dictionary and you're likely to find a picture of these two. Axel and Oscar were inmates at the prison, who were segregated from the group after their long-time cell mate Tomas tried to kill Rick.

Rick didn't think they could be trusted, but they eventually proved their worth when they helped save the prison from a walker infestation.

In time, Axel formed an awkward and then sweet bond with Carol, and Oscar proved a vital member of the group when they headed to Woodbury to save Glenn and Maggie Greene from The Governor.

Oscar died first, shot by Woodbury soldiers and put down by Maggie, and ended up being nothing more than a character who was made just to die and up the stakes of the coming conflict. Axel was killed later on by The Governor, for much the same reason.

Both Axel and Oscar were flawed, funny and interesting characters who were designed to die and never change, and given how amazing they proved to be in such a short period of time, that really sucks.
