The Walking Dead: 10 Things We Have To See In The Final Season
A Negan/Maggie showdown? Closure on past storylines? What else needs to happen before the end?
It's official: The Walking Dead - one of the most popular and widely talked about TV shows of the 21st century - is coming to an end in 2022 with the conclusion of its elongated eleventh season.
The franchise will be kept alive by various spin-offs, including a series focussed on fan favourites Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier. But with so many characters left wandering the undead landscape and numerous storylines still in need of being cleared up, it begs the question of how exactly the show will come to a satisfying conclusion.
Much of Robert Kirkman's comic series has already been glossed over or ignored entirely, with many of the series' most prominent characters having long outlived their comic counterparts, and several plot threads being removed completely from the screen.
With that in mind, the show really has free reign to end however it wants. For this list, we're sitting down to think about what kind of things fans need to see before the main show comes to an end, from satisfying villains to improved character arcs.
Here are 10 things that The Walking Dead just has to do in its final season. Spoilers for both the show and the comics follow.
10. Closure On Rick And Michonne
At the beginning of The Walking Dead's ninth season, Rick Grimes was written out of the show and presumed dead by his family and friends, following an attempt to save the communities from a walker horde. He was last seen badly injured and being flown away by the mysterious helicopter people.
Soon after this controversial development, Rick's wife Michonne was also written out of the show as she attempted to find him years later. As of this writing, only Judith Grimes is aware of Michonne's situation, and a trilogy of films are in development with the promise of tying up these loose ends.
Whilst the films are reportedly set to film in the summer, the show is still moving forward, and the remaining survivors are unaware of where Michonne has gone or that Rick may still be alive. This seems particularly cruel for Daryl, who spent years camped out in the woods looking for Rick and still blames himself for not being able to find any clues about his friend's fate.
Whether the show's final season will see a show/movie crossover remains to be seen, but needless to say The Walking Dead can't end without everyone knowing what's actually happened to their lost leaders.
