The Walking Dead 5.1 Review - 5 Talking Points From "Strangers In A Strange Land"

3. Father Gabriel

In €œStrangers In A Strange Land€ we€™re finally introduced to Father Gabriel, a character that has been teased and expected for some time now. He€™s anxious, terrified and feeble and Rick feels like he€™s hiding something (which he probably is), but has at least temporarily provided a small bit of salvation for the group by giving them a place to sleep and directing them to the community food bank. The evidence that Carl discovered on the outside of the church appeared to show someone attempting to get in, as well as the message €œYou€™ll Burn For This€ scrawled on the outside wall. For those that don€™t want to be potentially spoiled, skip this next paragraph: In the comics, Gabriel locks himself in the church and hordes all the supplies for himself, turning away any survivors who come seeking refuge. If we are to again accept the show runners€™ declaration that they€™re following the books closely this season, we can safely say something similar happened with the TV version of Father Gabriel. Although there€™s still a chance that AMC uses it as a red herring and goes a different direction, the clues all seem to be in place.
