Rick’s temporary love interest in Alexandria was quickly pushed aside so we could get to the developing connection between Rick and Michonne. Lasting a mere 11 episodes Jessie’s story is hardly explored or elaborated.

The way she handled the Wolves intruder in her house leads us to believe there might have been a rewarding story to tell of her progression from abused housewife to certified zombie slayer.

Had Jessie survived the walker invasion that claimed her life, the loss of both her children (yep, they would still die as they did in the show because they were completely intolerable) could have sparked the beginning of the transformation of the character.

The similarities between Carol and Jessie were probably the main reasons the show writers were so quick to kill her off. They had already told a nearly identical story in the early seasons of the show when Carol broke free of an abusive relationship and suffered the loss of a child.
