The Walking Dead: Every Character Ranked Worst To Best

17. Merle Dixon

The Walking Dead
AMC

Appearances: Season 1-3 (14 episodes).

Trust Michael Rooker to make Merle Dixon a three-dimensional anti-hero despite his mountainous flaws -- sexism, racism, violence, and sadism amongst them.

No, the complex older brother of Daryl was never that likeable, his vicious nature and untamed social skills keeping atonement just out of reach before his admittedly selfless death, but he was always an easy man to understand, even as he battled for his brother's love or tortured Glenn.

A man traumatised and moulded by his abusive upbringing, Merle was imperfect and endlessly entertaining, and Rooker sold his conflicted emotions without flaw. Daryl finding his undead corpse will never not hurt to see.
