The loving father of Maggie and Beth and the trusted confidant and mentor of Rick, Hershel's stern wisdom and blind faith in a better future made him impossible to fault, even as he struggled to come to terms with the world's dangers or violence.
The late, great Scott Wilson injected Hershel with such lovable fatherly warmth and selflessness that when The Governor beheaded him, it sent shockwaves throughout the fandom and the show itself. The world grew darker in his absence.
