10. Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal)
Shane was the backbone of the first two seasons of The Walking Dead. The best friend of Rick, watching Shane go from loyal right-hand to psychopathic enemy was a blast.
The definition of a complex character, Shane always believed that he was in the right. He undermined Rick at every corner, pushed his morals aside with every decision he made, and was visibly infuriated by Rick’s return to his family.
He protected Lori and Carl when everything went down, and he had some moments where he looked as though he could be a good man, but after a while it was clear he couldn't be saved.
His death and subsequent re-animation remain a show high-point, and his demise signalled the true beginning of The Walking Dead fans know today.
