Do Not Send Us Astray is a brilliant episode of great tension, genuinely shocking twists, and some of the season's most spectacular set pieces. With Negan out the way, Simon takes control of the Saviors and plots to destroy Hilltop.

The ensuing battle is phenomenally filmed, moody and brutal, and though it ends with the Saviors fleeing for their lives, it becomes clear they never intended to stay, as the community's wounded die, reanimate, and kill countless Hilltop residents in the dead of night.

Watching like a classic zombie horror movie, Do Not Send Us Astray balances every one of the season's limited strengths, infusing striking character development with awesome action sequences and unsettling horror. It's the best episode of them all, and refuses to succumb to the season's many maddening shortcomings.
