The Walking Dead: Every Season 8 Episode Ranked Worst To Best

9. Wrath

The Walking Dead Wrath
Gene Page/AMC

As the long-awaited season finale, Wrath is far from a complete failure, but it certainly offers an underwhelming conclusion to the two-season conflict between the Saviors and the other communities.

Though the final moments where Rick spares Negan's life and Eugene is revealed to have been sabotaging the Saviors' bullets are both rushed and maddeningly unsatisfying, the build-up is wonderfully achieved, featuring countless effective plot twists and violent outbursts to keep the tension at a high.

Sure, Rick keeping Negan alive makes sense given Carl's final wishes, but even so the way it's handled feels quite unearned, and the fact that there's no epic final fight between the Saviors and the communities is a bit disappointing. All-in-all, the tension is thick, the structure engaging, but the payoff lets it down at the end.
