The Walking Dead Season 8: 10 Big Questions We Need Answers To

6. Is Eugene Truly Negan?

Eugene had viewers - and Negan - convinced that he had switched sides before his role in Sasha’s death in the season seven finale. The former Alexandria resident slipped Sasha one of his homemade pills, which she used to kill herself inside her coffin prison.

This was a slight hint that Eugene had had a change of heart over where his loyalties lie. However, it is equally plausible that he was simply showing some mercy to an old friend, especially because it was not Sasha’s original plan to commit suicide, but rather to coerce Eugene into slipping her a weapon which she could use against Negan, not on herself.

All of Eugene’s previous behaviour indicated that he had found his home as the 'Doctor Smarty Pants’ of The Sanctuary. He was relishing in being a valued member of the team, rather than the useless coward that he was perceived as by most Alexandrians.

Negan raised suspicions over the cause of Sasha’s death and might make Eugene prove his loyalty early in season eight. Then we might have a better idea if he truly is Negan.
